3 April 2019
Last day of term - Friday 5 April 2019
I would like to remind parents that the Academy expects all students to attend on the final day of term, as teachers will be delivering normal lessons up to and including Period 6. Any student absent on that day will miss important curriculum content. There are only 190 school days and the Academy believes that the best possible use should be made of each one. Your co-operation and support in achieving good attendance for your child is greatly valued.
After the Easter holidays the timings and arrangements for lunch will be altered. From 23 April 2019, students in Years 7 and 9 will have their lunch after Period 4 at 12:50pm.
I would like to remind parents that the Academy has a strict dress policy which all students are expected to comply with. Details of this policy can be found on pages 15, 16 and 17 of the student planner. Can I ask that parents particularly note that trousers need to be black, smart, tailored and full length for both girls and boys. Also please note that students are not allowed to wear make-up in Years 7-10.
If you require any further information or examples of suitable attire, then this can be found on the Louth Academy website
My Ed – Academy Communication App
I am pleased to report that a large number of parents have downloaded the My Ed app and are successfully using this to access information about their children. The app also includes a message service, which will make it much easier for us to inform you about events and important news items on a more regular basis.
Please note, the app is free and it is easy to set up and use. The process is as follows:
I am pleased to report that the Academy's refurbishment programme is making good progress. The Upper site is now almost complete with the majority of the site having undergone modernisation and improvement works. Additional refurbished student toilets will be opened after Easter. On the lower site, the English suite of rooms will be completed after the Easter break. New toilets were opened this term and additional facilities are scheduled to open soon.
By the end of this academic year, students on both sites will benefit from drastically improved teaching and learning facilities. The Academy is planning an opportunity for parents to be able to view these improvements on both sites towards the end of the summer term.
Fire Evacuation/Lockdown Procedures
The Academy takes the safety of students very seriously. We have undertaken fire drills on both sites and students are to be commended on their good conduct during these drills which led to quick and orderly evacuations. The Academy also practises a lockdown procedure. This is undertaken to prepare the Academy for a range of scenarios that may require students and staff to stay indoors.
The Academy will re-open on Tuesday 23 April 2019. hope you and your children have a good break and I look forward to a successful summer term. As ever, thank you for your continued support.
